Women of St. James UMC

As most of us already know, St. James UMC had a fire August 25th in the wee hours of the morning.  There was a major storm with lightning and thunder (of which I totally slept through!) and it appears that lightning struck the west end of the sanctuary roof and started the fire.  It was raining so hard that it semi-put out the fire.  At the same time the lightning struck it also fried our telephone lines of which our fire alarms are connected!  So, the fire department right next door did not get a call.   However, our sprinkler system was working and went about its happy way to do its job and continued to do just that until it  so happened (do you think God was in charge? obvious answer YES!) that Jerry Snider showed up for the dinner theatre auditions on Sat morning around 9:30 am.

After Jerry called the trustees and pastor, getting the sprinkler convinced it it did not need to be on any longer, and assessing the damage,  someone thought they smelled smoke and did indeed locate the smoke,  Ron sumpter had to get into his car and drive next door to the fire department and notify them that we were in the midst of a fire!  So three fire trucks roared around the corner and went about putting the fire out.  By the way, we have an absolutely wonderful fire station next door with some great firemen.  Anytime you have opportunity, go by and thank them for all their hard work.  Maybe even take some homemade cookie?   Especially remember them in your prayers!
